CAT SYA aims to promote Burkinabè craftsmanship in Catalonia and around the world. It participates in various events in Barcelona and elsewhere to promote and raise awareness of its NGO and African culture and craftsmanship, such as African fabrics (Wax, Basin, Bogolan, Batik, Faso Danfani), African jewelry, and local food products such as sumbalá and peanut paste produced through its projects in Burkina. Additionally, CAT SYA offers handmade African soap and shea butter cream.
CAT SYA organizes different awareness and training activities to introduce elements of African art and culture such as African sculpture or music, culinary techniques, textile manufacturing, etc. Concerts are a good example of Burkinabe culture, highly appreciated by the public. The activities are accompanied by lectures or discussions on cultural issues and on the political-economic situation of African countries, particularly Burkina Faso.
CAT SYA promotes school exchanges between schools in Catalonia and Burkina Faso as part of its youth awareness program, as a tool for knowledge and personal growth. The reality of the two countries is so different that mutual understanding is very enriching and motivating, the discovery of another reality, and the possibility of making new friends in a country so far away.
To promote African culture in Europe, and increase awareness of the reality of African countries is an important part of our mission and one of the main objectives of the NGO.
We consider it essential to open up forums for debate on the reality of what is happening in Africa, raise awareness among citizens and share our experiences, establish connections with other associations and NGOs, hold meetings with the consul of Burkina Faso, as well as promote African crafts in our environment.
